What do I need to know about the assessment process?
Whatever your reasons for coming to CNIH, we know you want the best possible results, and we are committed to that goal. To achieve that, we need to gather as much relevant information as possible about you/your child. We do a comprehensive assessment comprised of the Self-Reporting Form, an in-depth interview with a member of our clinical staff, a brain map and a symptom profile.
This initial assessment process sets the stage for a successful experience. We have learned from our many years of clinical experience that proper diagnosis coupled with an understanding of the individual’s current situation leads to good treatment.
Too many times we have had individuals tell us of prior experiences in which a diagnosis was based on a hasty assessment or where the broader context of the individual was not well considered. Ultimately, a potentially effective treatment misapplied is useless, perhaps even counterproductive.
At CNIH, we have combined treatments and training strategies that afford the individual the chance to heal and to raise his/her level of performance. Our assessment process ensures that treatments are well-matched to the individual’s needs.

How much time is needed for neurofeedback?
Beyond using a Brain Map to direct neurofeedback training, there is the issue of frequency of training. For most people, twice weekly training, at a minimum, is needed to get the brain to change its behavior for the better and, ultimately, to maintain those changes. (There is a small fraction of the population in which the individual’s sensitivity to training is much greater than normal, where, at least to begin with, once weekly sessions are indicated.) At CNIH, we provide 45 minute sessions which include patient progress assessment, set up, neurofeedback training ( up to 30 minutes) and session completion. The actual time spent training may be individualized depending on the condition of the trainee and his/her sensitivity to the training.
